For most, the debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton seemed like a debacle with no clear winner. However, Trump has gotten visibly upset as people closest to him are admitting he got thrashed by Hillary Clinton on Monday. They are doing so on the condition of anonymity, but the Republican nominee remains livid over the matter.
In a conference call with surrogates on Wednesday afternoon, aides working for Turmp made it clear that the presidential hopeful is angry that his allies have publicly acknowledged that Hillary Clinton bested him in the debate.
He has also made it clear that he wants them to stop it immediately, as the message was “not subtle,” a source familiar with the call said. Instead, Trump wants his supporters to make an energetic defense of his performance.
His aides had hoped that shellacking (YouGov had her 57/30 percent, CNN 62/27 and PPP 51/40) would convince Trump to study for the next debate, but the Republican nominee doesn’t feel that is necessary.
Many are hoping this tantrum is just for show and that he will be more prepared for the next one, though most doubt it.
