CNN recently stated that Washington has been in the “Twilight Zone” ever since the Helsinki summit. Honestly, however, Washington has been in the Twilight Zone since Trump was elected President in 2016, and Putin’s invite is just another episode.
Following Monday’s summit between the two world leaders, Trump received bipartisan backlash due to his passive attitude towards Putin.
During the summit, Trump stated that he believed Putin’s claims that Russia did not interfere with the 2016 election. Trump apparently believes Putin over claims made by U.S. Federal Investigators that Russia was involved.
Trump tweeted that the summit was a success, and that’s he looking forward to round two with Putin.
The tweet read:
“The summit with Russia was a great success, except with the real enemy of the people, the Fake News Media. I look forward to our second meeting so that we can start implementing some of the many things discussed.”
Trump and Putin held a private meeting, only allowing two interpreters into the room. Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats still doesn’t know what occurred during the meeting. In fact, Coats didn’t even know that Trump intended to invite Putin to visit the United States this fall.
Many are suspicious, as Trump has invited Putin to visit the United States during the 2018 mid-term elections.
