The Former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones, was arrested on Tuesday for violating his probation. The Albuquerque Police stated last Thursday night that Jones was given five traffic citations and one that included drag racing.
Now at this time Jones is under probation after taking a guilty plea for admitting to a hit and run incident that involved a pregnant woman from almost exactly one year ago. Jones did turn himself in on Tuesday morning to officers and was taken to a detention center, where he still remains in custody as of now.
The Albuquerque Police Department did release the body camera footage of Jones when he was being cited for drag racing. In the video you can there is an exchange of words between Jones and the officer and it does become heated to say the least. Jones does call the officer a “f—ing liar” and did include a “pig” in the exchange of words.
Jones did go on The MMA Hour radio show with host Ariel Helwani and tried to explain what happened that night when the citation occurred. Jones stated that happened was that he revved his engine at some fans that were in a car that was next to his at a red light. At that point just after the light, he was pulled over for drag racing.
Jones stated that “I definitely wasn’t drag racing,” and that he did include that “I got emotional and said some things that I probably shouldn’t have said to a police officer.”
At this time, the UFC did make a statement and did state this, “UFC is aware that Jon Jones turned himself into the Albuquerque Police Department this morning for a potential probation violation stemming from a traffic stop last week,” and that they also included to say “UFC has been in touch with Jones’ legal team and will have no further comment until the organization has had the appropriate time to gather necessary information.”
The light heavyweight phenom is scheduled to fight at UFC 197 in April for the title that Jones was stripped of after his hit and run. At this time UFC is waiting to make a call on the fight to determine if any action is even needed before the fight on April 23.
