The internet and social media can be used to connect with people all over the world. As websites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are expanding and new sites are being made, the companies put themselves at risk for security problems. That was unfortunately the case for Twitter and Reddit due to one device. BBC News is reporting that a specific brand of webcam is being recalled because of its connection to an attack of Twitter and Reddit. The recall has owners of the device looking towards the incident to see how it may affect them.
Several days ago, people were abuzz about the limited access to Twitter and Reddit. BBC News reports that the webcams released by a Chinese electronic firm by the name of Hangzhou Xiongmai recalled the devices because they were interfering with consistent access to social media websites. The conflict involved several computers and thousands of devices.
Hangzhou Xiongmai believes that it has been able to find the source of this problem. BBC News is also reporting that the company has cited the source of the problem as the easy default password the devices come with. Users that did not reset their password were put at risk for the security breach. As a safety precaution, the company made the decision to recall all of the devices involved in the problem.
People are becoming very worried that another incident like this could happen again. BBC News is also releasing information that shows that the companies devices are very popular with hackers because they are able to breach. Some of the devices are even coded in such a way that their passwords cannot be changed
Technology is a tool that can be used to improve how humans connect with one another. Unfortunately, it can also be used to violate the privacy and the rights that people have. Hopefully, the company can do what it can to make sure this does not occur again in the future.
