Creative writing is the mother of all forms of writing, and the article is about looking into the biggest mistakes of creative writers.

But first, it is essential to grasp the basic idea that, for many people, including the writers, is used vaguely.

In any case, creative writing is a serious business, both by vocation or avocation, both for the readers and the writer.

Any person, with extensive knowledge and experiences that he or she can reflect into words, can claim to be a creative writer. But a majority of the content writers, as they’re alternately called, are caught up in a dilemma here. Probably, the reason is that they are tending to reflect more than they have absorbed!

A cosmic example to relate this human limitation is the relation between the Sun and the Moon. The latter is destined to reflect a fraction of light from its far huger counterpart.

Obviously, an individual’s capacity is not, and should be not, entirely as static as Moon’s. Still, there are limitations of one kind or another.

Understandably, no one can be a master of all trades. No one needs to be. Instead, every creative writer should define a specialized role or needs to converge his focus like Plato’s Theory of Justice advocates. The theory of the Greek sage is focused on the division of labor, that we can adapt to our own times with the specialization of duties.

Most Common Mistakes of Creative Writers

Now coming back to the main point after this prelude, let us talk about the biggest mistakes of creative writers.

It is that they are writing more than they have the knowledge of it. As a contemporary Urdu poet, John Elia said about such people:

“Many people who are writing should read.”

It reflects the same problem I, as a creative writer, am trying to find out from a different perspective.

Probably, the single-most reason to blame for is the dramatic rise of the freelance writing industry. Most of the writers go astray here. They tend to barter quality for quantity, only to sacrifice the chance of a far-sighted personal glory at the altars of short-term financial gain.

Yet, I don’t blame all of them entirely as some of them are doing this for their livelihood, which is always justifiable. However, writing is more about passion and, at times, tends to become part of one’s personality.

Those who are writing just because they have no other job, or those for whom writing is just an afterthought, are doing injustice. I would even call it intellectual prostitution.

Even those who are writing without a desire for creating a masterpiece will be cursed by the words they never uttered.

So, What is the Textbook Example of a Good Creative Writer!

Ultimately, creative writing is all about expressing the words in the way one sees them. But for this, the essential part is that he should have a discerning mind, capable of both adopt and adapt to new ideas.

The foremost example of creative writing is fiction writing. It is always marvelous to see how these magicians produce so perfectly-placed words from nowhere.

But as I said before, the basic is that a person must possess vast knowledge, if he wishes to become a writer. It serves him as a guide to his mind as to how to carry the ideas further. It also supports in presenting the idea with established realities.

Last but not least, for the freelance creative writers, I have a piece of advice: Don’t become the jack of all trades. Become a master of something!
