BBC News reports that the sailor by the name of Guo Chuan was trying to break the standing record of crossing the Pacific Ocean alone. Chuan’s boat was found in waters near Hawaii without him in it when his team lost contact with him. The boat was found broken. The main sail of Chuan’s boat was snapped off and spotted in the water near his ship. The US Coast Guard is now searching waters in the area for Chuan.
Chuan left on his trip from San Francisco and hoped to reach Shanghai in enough time to beat the standing record of 21 days.
