Former President Barack Obama said that men have been “getting on [his] nerves lately.”
At a recent town hall in Johannesburg, a woman asked Obama how she could get more involved in politics. Obama answered by stating that having women in office would be beneficial.
Obama has been traveling throughout the African continent to help leaders succeed. He hosted a five-day workshop which promoted female leaders such as Graca Machel and Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
He replied to the woman’s question by saying:
Women in particular . . . I want you to get more involved. Because men have been getting on my nerves lately. I mean, every day I read the newspaper and I just think like, ‘Brothers, what’s wrong with you guys? What’s wrong with us?’ I mean, we’re violent, we’re bullying. You know, just not handling our business. So I think empowering more women on the continent — that right away is going to lead to some better policies.”
WHY HAVE MEN BEEN GETTING ON OBAMA’S NERVES?
Critics have noted that many men in both the entertainment industry and the world of politics have recently been accused of heinous acts. These incidents further support Obama’s statement that having women in leadership roles would be extremely beneficial.
Obama has not stated whether or not he plans to continue his tour in the United States. However, it is obvious that Obama supports the rights of women globally.
