Hundreds of witches around the world gathered on Tuesday night to perform an impotency hex against Stanford rapist Brock Turner. The hex was also placed on Turner’s father, Dan A. Turner and the judge who granted what many feel is a lenient sentence to Brock: Aaron Persky.
Melanie Elizabeth Hexen, the leader of the hex, organized the event on a Facebook page, which has since been deleted. The name of the group was “The Hexing of Brock Turner”. She wrote that participants would need a solid black candle, a photo of Turner, a black string, and a spell that she would provide according to a Daily News article.
The spell was shared as follows:
Brock Allen Turner we hex you.
You will be impotent
You will know constant pain of pine needles in your guts
Food will bring you no sustenance
In water, your lungs will fail you
Sleep will only bring nightmares
Shame will be your mantle.
You will meet justice.
My witchcraft is strong. Our witchcraft is powerful. The spell will work. So Mote it be.
In an interview with U.S. News and World Report, Hexen said that the massive hex “really struck a chord with a lot of women as a way to feel like they had some power in this situation.” She also noted that the instances of witches casting spells and hexes in time of powerlessness is not something new. The practice goes back thousands of years.
Whether or not the hex will take its course is unclear. But Brock Turner is being kept in protective custody in order to prevent beatdowns by other inmates. His sentence may be shortened even more with a judge saying that he could be out on good behavior, dwindling his release date down to September 2.
