The Governor of California, Gavin Newsom, declared a state of emergency over fears of COVID-19. This comes after a California man who contracted it on the Diamond Princess Cruise Ship died.
As a result, officials are working toward locating other people who were on the same ship. They need to determine if they have also contracted the virus or not.
Moreover, 12 counties of the state already reported cases of the virus with over 50 sick people.
Furthermore, Gov. Newsom expressed his confidence in the state’s ability to contain the spread of the virus by the cruise ship passengers who already returned to California.
In other words, Newsom said the state has both the resources and the capacity to contain the spread, adding that the officials would make contact with every county health official that has passengers from the cruise before this evening.
He continued by saying that they will collect their contact details in order to contact these people.

Moreover, Newsom aims to make California prepare for and contain the spread of coronavirus. This will allow state agencies to acquire the necessary equipment and services easily. Also, this will make them share patient’s information and remove restrictions on the access to the state’s properties and facilities.
Newsom emphasized that the proclamation is not about money. However, it’s about resourcefulness, the ability to combine tools.
Coronavirus Death in California
Meanwhile, public health officials of Placer County announced the death of a patient who tested positive to COVID-19. This came last month after the patient returned from a cruise to Mexico.
Besides, the deceased was an elderly adult, and he was the second confirmed death from the county. Reports of the death came on Tuesday night. In addition, close contacts of the patient are now in quarantine and monitored for any signs of the illness.
Moreover, health officials believe that the patient contracts the virus on the Diamond Princess Cruise ship.
