During the recent Television Critics Association press tour, Fox executives were asked about the future of Scream Queens. Since the show’s second season had lower viewership numbers than expected, fans and critics alike are wondering if the show will be renewed.
The event was held in Pasadena, California were Fox’s David Madden and Gary Newman released info about the horror comedy show. The duo unfortunately did not confirm if Scream Queens would be back for a third season.
Although the Fox executives did praise the show for attracting a young demographic viewership audience.
Madden reportedly informed Variety that the show is still considered highly for a renewal. The executive did comment though that the ratings don’t tell the whole story.
The network executives are noticing that most of the show’s young viewers are watching episodes through their online platform.
The Fox executives also commented that they have not made any definitive decision on renewing Pitch and The Exorcist.
Newman also commented that The Exorcist and Pitch won’t have an official answer of their cancellation or renewal until later this year. He also commented that they obviously wished these shows’ obtained bigger numbers.
Gary Newman commented that the network has noticed these shows have attracted a hard-to-reach younger audience. Although, he stated, they are going to have to see what the network’s needs are by the time they get closer to May.
Fox reportedly wanted to attract a larger pool of male and female viewership by having a hospital setting in the show’s season. The season finale episode brought in 1.38 million viewers and had a 0.5 rating in their 18-49 demographic viewership.
Fans are hoping Ryan Murphy’s strong relationship with the network will land Scream Queens a third season. Ryan Murphy has produced hit show American Horror Story and the critically acclaimed series American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson.
Murphy is set to premiere another anthology series called Feud on FX.
