The Royal Tour – NYC and DC

Set aside American royalty such as Hollywood starlets for a moment, as genuine British royals Prince William and wife Kate, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, grace NYC for a three-day visit.

The royals arrived in New York December 7th for a stay at the Carlyle Hotel. Though their three-day trip was short, much was to be done. Princess Kate spent a good deal of her time at the Northside Center for Child Development in Harlem where she sat and spoke with children, wrapped presents and even participated in a few arts and crafts.

Though it wouldn’t truly be a New York visit without attending a basketball game; the Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Brooklyn’s own Nets. The royal couple interacted with adoring fans, appeared on the big screen above the court, as well as met several players; such as Lebron James who gave them cupcakes from his hometown and a jersey for young Prince George. They even met American royals Beyoncé and Jay Z.

They paid a visit to the National September 11th Memorial Museum where the couple shared quiet thoughts and prayers for those who were lost but never forgotten. They read some of the 3,000 names of victims as well as toured the artifacts from the towers that were on display. The couple had written a letter to pay their respects.

“You could see in, really, both of their eyes, the sort of care and curiosity they had for the story of what happened and the people who died that day,” Joe Daniels stated via ABC 7 News.

William made a solo trip to DC to meet with President Obama at the White House where he answered questions from the press. He was given a private tour of the White House and had a brief introduction with Vice President Joe Biden. This was not the first time the President and Prince have met, as Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth welcomed the Obama’s back in 2011 for a dinner at Buckingham Palace.

One thing British Royals do best is dress well for a black tie event. Even while she is pregnant, Kate is able to wow us with her sense of style, elegance and fashion taste. She recycled her beloved navy Jenny Packham gown for the St. Andrews 600th Anniversary Dinner at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. William was able to say a few words in honor of the event.
