The murder of Jamal Khashoggi, who was an eminent journalist of Saudi Arabia, has already been a bone of contention for many controversies. The Minister of State of Foreign affairs, Saudi Arabia, has already challenged the UN report that has demanded an investigation on Mohammad Bin Salman, who is the Crown Prince.  The honorable minister has also claimed the demand to be evidence of discrimination on the part of the UN.

The minister’s claim

Adel al-Jubeir further added which the state news agency SPA provided as a statement that was later incorporated in the reports that the accusation was untrue and the suspicion stemmed from some of the preconceived ideas. He almost dismantled the necessity of extrajudicial execution as proposed by the UN reports.

To substantiate his words on firm grounds, he further clarified that Saudi Arabia had submitted a progress report on the case of Khashoggi murder to the Un High Commissioner of Human Rights wing and has also retained the power to progress on legal action against the claim of the UN report.

The Investigator’s version

However, the winds seemed to turn otherwise when the UN rights investigator hummed a tune that was contrary to what Adel al- Jubeir had announced initially. The investigator mentioned the name of Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince, Mohammad Bin Salman to have a direct connection with the murder case of journalist Khashoggi. He also confirmed chances of some of the high officials of Saudi Arabia to be a part of the conspiracy.

Callamard’s claims

Agnes Callamard, the name behind the raged out demand of including Crown Prince and his assets within the limits of suspicion until and unless proven to have no responsibility in the incidence, is a UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial executions.

The reason that the Crown Prince is getting associated with this unholy act of homicide is that Jamal Khashoggi has always been a critic of Mohammad Bin Salman. He was a Washington Post Columnist as well. Before the murder took place, he was seen at the Saudi consulate for the last time where he went to collect papers ahead of his marriage. Ever since his body could not be found and it’s like he has almost disappeared. Callamard has also urged to create an international probe on this incidence to the UN Secretary-General.

The investigation

Post this incidence, Callamard, conducted a thorough investigation for six consecutive months and regarded the murder as a purposeful, planned execution and an extrajudicial killing and also held the government of Saudi Arabia to be responsible and executable under the Human Right Law. Callamard also included the shreds of evidence in the reports procured during the visit to Turkey with a team of forensic and legal experts that made the claims trustworthy. Based on the evidence, Callamard emphasized judicial interventions of the authorities to investigate and try the high officials of Saudi Arabia within the orbit of the law.

With democratic conceptions taking the world by storm, it is critical the role of the UN in establishing justice in favor of truth. As far as the shreds of evidence are concerned, they seem to be strong enough to bring the royal crown under trials.
