The current political climate has led to rising tensions across the country. These tensions came to a head with a clash between Whoopi Goldberg and Jeanine Pirro on the View.
The View’s hosts, who are known for their left-leaning political views, recently invited Jeanine Pirro on the show.
Pirro hosts Fox Channel’s Justice with Judge Jeanine and recently wrote a book called “Liars, Leakers, and Liberals.” She’s known for her conservative views and strong opinions.
During the taping, when the hosts asked Jeanine Pirro about her beliefs on several political topics, things begin to heat up.
Pirro stated:
“You know, I’m not here to talk about what Donald Trump is and isn’t…I’m here to talk about the book.”
It wasn’t until Pirro pointed at Goldberg when she mentioned the term “Trump Derrangement.” Goldberg replied as follows.
Goldberg:
Listen, I don’t have ‘Trump derangement’ — let me tell you what I have. I’m tired of people starting a conversation with ‘Mexicans are liars and rapists. Listen, I’m 62 years old. Listen, I’m 62 years old. There have been a lot of people in office that I didn’t agree with, but I have never, ever seen anything like this. I’ve never seen anybody whip up such hate. I’ve never seen anybody be so dismissive. And clearly you don’t watch the show, so you don’t know that I don’t suffer from that. What I suffer from is the inability to figure out how to fix this.” Goldberg tried to change the topic and steer the conversation toward Pirro’s book, but Pirro went right back in.”
Pirro:
Whoopi, you know what’s horrible? When people who shouldn’t be here end up murdering the children of American citizens.”
Goldberg:
You know what’s horrible? When the president of the United States whips up people to beat the hell out of people. Say goodbye! I’m done.”
The show then went to commercial break. When the show returned, Goldberg stated:
“You saw me do something I very rarely do … I very rarely lose my cool, and I’m not proud of it. I don’t like it. But I also don’t like being accused of being hysterical because that is one of the things I try not to be on this show.”
On Fox, Pirro stated her side of the story, while Whoopi gave her side of the story to other outlets. Both spoke about the exchange of curse words and rude behavior, but quite frankly, that’s not the main problem.
It is disturbing that many political conversations today tend to end in arguments. Since the 2016 Presidential election, the rivalry between Democrats and Republicans has increased exponentially. Some policies created by the Trump administration, such as the travel ban, as well as massive protesting from the left has added fuel to the fire that’s burning across America.
Honestly, the View already knew where Pirro lies on the political spectrum. They know what they’re getting themselves into when they invite conservative guests. And while Goldberg has the liberty to voice her personal beliefs, I believe that it was wrong on her part to kick Pirro off of the show so early. Instead of booting off the judge, Goldberg could’ve pushed through the conversation or continued the debate. Either way, both sides should get the opportunity to state their opinion.
America faces many political issues today. The main reason that these issues are not being resolved, however, stems from miscommunication between both parties. Both sides want to be right, yet they don’t want to hear the other side’s opinions. Regardless of what political party one supports, it’s always important to listen to all sides and opinions and learn the facts.
